We are at Quilapituni base camp.
At anytime there are approximately 6 or 8 expedition
members at the camp. This is the meeting point for the
two parties - those of us based in Guanay and the others
up at the lost city site. It's a happy meeting place
where we spend a few hours together swapping stories.
The group up at the site are cut off from the outside
world and are usually craving some information on what's
happening in the world that exists beyond the mountains
of Bolivia. We in turn are anxious to find out news
on what the archaeologists are discovering up in the
mountains.
The
supplies we bring are then loaded onto the mules by
the team. Usually this consists of some fruit bought
on the way to Quilapituni and bags of pasta. The mule
team then prepares for their long journey up to the
site. They say the scenery is astounding on the climb
up there and from what we see around us we are quite
sure it is.
Our
meeting point is beautiful, surrounded by mountains
and forests, and we like to stay on and talk a little
longer. But we've all got our different tasks to do
and need to get on with our day.
We
say our good byes and get ready for our individual journeys
- the mule team back up the steep, slow mountain climb
and us on the body bashing drive back to Quilapituni.
